You can capture videos in a Data Collector. This is an optional chargeable extra to cover the costs of video storage. Please contact AppCan for pricing.

The maximum length of each video is set to 5 minutes. Within the 5 minute limit you can restrict the video length further, as required.

By default, Super Users automatically have permissions to use video fields in Data Collectors. You can assign the \’Enable Video Field\’ permission to any custom created Access Levels.

Configuring \’Video\’ Fields in Data Collectors

To configure Video in a Data Collector, select \’Add Field\’ and enter the required Field Name. Select \’Video\’ from the list of Field Types.

Select the Video field options (3 dots) to set the required video length in seconds (within the maximum 300 seconds).

It is important to manage the length of each video. The file size of a video is significantly larger than a photo and will therefore take a lot longer to upload, especially over mobile networks. Once a video is captured, only URL links are used for forwarded records, exports, reports etc. These URL links can be clicked to stream the video.

You can add tooltips to the video field to assist the user in capturing the required video content.

Capturing Video in a Data Collector on AppCan Mobile

If you have a Video field in your Data Collector app, once the user selects the video field, they will be prompted to capture a Video. We suggest you use Tooltips to advise the user of the maximum length of the video and any details of the content you require to be captured.

Viewing & downloading Videos in View Data

In the View Data grid, if a video has been captured, you can click on the video icon to watch the video and see the location the video was captured.

There is also an option to download the video to your local device, or create a video alert (see section below).

Selecting \’View\’ against a record, you also have the option to watch the video, Remove the video, Download the video or create a Video Alert.

Video Alerts

Selecting \’Create Video Alert\’ will open the \’Alerts\’ modal, where you can enter a Subject, Alert Text and select the user(s) you wish to send the alert to.

The video will be included in the alert on the mobile device, for the user(s) to watch by selecting the video icon.
